Physical Education Teaching Philosophy
I believe that physical education and all physical activity plays a significant role in the lives of each person in society. Through my past experiences I have developed a strong passion for physical activity. I feel that this passion can be valuable in motivating students to develop both their athletic skills and awareness towards the need for life long physical fitness. Through teaching physical education, I believe I will be provided the opportunity and ability to instill these values in others.
Throughout various educational experiences I have developed insights that have allowed me to create a personal viewpoint towards physical education. Specifically, I believe it is important to work with young people at a developmental age, rather than a chronological age. This allows the students the opportunity to excel to the best of their potential. Teaching fundamentals at a young age is crucial in developing an athletic identity and positive attitudes towards life long physical fitness. Through physical education, the students are required to put in effort in order for self-accomplishment. I feel this is an important aspect as it allows the students a good amount of responsibility and teaches them the skill of involvement. For myself, physical activity has always been very enjoyable. To help create an enjoyable environment I believe promoting enthusiasm and creativity is key. Providing the students with a creative environment allows the students to use different skills and create new outlooks towards physical activity. Forming a fun, safe, and exciting environment will foster children’s learning.
Throughout my life I have been involved in sports and various physical activities. These activities range from competitive and recreational activities, as well as non-competitive physical activities such as yoga and various water sports. Through my involvement in these activities, I have seen how athletics can develop a variety of desirable qualities. For myself, athletics has developed my moral character, a strong work ethic as well as an understanding of the need to work for the common good. My experiences through coaching have been very rewarding and fulfilling. Not only have I enjoyed working with elite athletes, but also I have found significant reward in watching all students of different levels develop and excel. I find this an important reason for working with all young people in a positive learning environment, whether they are novice or elite.
Overall fitness is not only about physical activity, but about healthy lifestyle choices as well. I believe physical education teachers must promote overall health, and teach students about healthy choices that can be used to achieve wellness and continue to stay active outside of school. Teaching children physical education can provide them with multiple life skills that they can continue to possess as lifelong attributes.
I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to many different experiences involving physical activity. These experiences are what have created the absolute passion I have for athletics and fitness. My desire is to share this passion with others, no matter what ability or age, as I believe it can provide a positive aspect to their life.
